Leading the weekend’s festivities is the 20th anniversary of Bank of America Celebration at the Station featuring the Kansas City Symphony, taking place on Sunday, May 25. This free event is a community favorite, transforming the grounds of Union Station and the National WWI Museum and Memorial into a vibrant gathering space.

  • Event site opens: 5:00 PM

  • Symphony performance: 8:00 PM

  • Fireworks finale: After dark

Attendees can enjoy food trucks, vendor booths, and pre-concert entertainment. The evening ends with a spectacular fireworks show in tribute to our nation’s heroes.

Memorial Observances at the National WWI Museum and Memorial

From May 23–26, the National WWI Museum and Memorial offers free admission to veterans and active-duty military personnel, and half-price entry for the general public. A meaningful lineup of events honors service and encourages reflection:

  • May 27 (10 AM): Memorial Day Ceremony with keynote speaker Major General (Ret.) William Razz Waff

  • May 12–27: Flags of Forgotten Soldiers Display

  • May 23–26: Honoring Service Flag Display

  • May 24: Warrior Pose: Yoga with Veterans, screening of SHEEPDOG, Military Vehicle Display (also on May 25)

Kicking Off the Summer Season

Memorial Day also marks the start of summer fun across Kansas City:

  • Worlds of Fun: Now open for the 2024 season, including the return of the popular Zambezi Zinger roller coaster

  • Oceans of Fun: Opens May 24 with a joint ticket for both amusement and water parks

Sports & Outdoor Adventures

  • Kansas City Monarchs: Catch the reigning champs in action during a holiday weekend home series

  • Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium: Now featuring the new Sobela Ocean Aquarium, combining marine life and classic zoo favorites for an all-in-one family adventure
